Foodie Pen Pal Reveal Day

Wow I can't believe it's the end of October, Christmas will be here before we know it.  This month I signed up for Foodie Pen Pals over at The Lean Green Bean.  Basically how it works is that you sign up by the 5th of every month and you are assigned a Pen Pal.  I was so excited to receive my box from Vanessa over at midsouthmoma.  She sent me a box full of yummy goodness.  100% organic sunflower seeds; which i ate right away...  shhh don't judge.  Also, included was organic chocolate syrup, honey, mints, sport beans, pomegranate juice and funky monkey treats.  She also included Sweet Potato treats for our fur babies, Hank & Finn.  thanks Vanessa for the yummy goodies!!!!  You can also see what I sent to my pen pal over at CourtneyFos blog.

Lost in TX

So by no you probably know that we have moved ago TX.  My first time being away from the area I grew up;it took me 35 years, but we did it.  My first day driving to the Smoothie King, which I I thought I remembered how to get there but I got a little lost, just trying to get out of the apartment complex.  Needless to say, I am terrible with directions.  Living somewhere for 35 years you get use to the area and can get almost anywhere.  Now being in the state of Texas, hello this place is freakin huge not to mention a ton of more highways.  So I'm learning the ropes and getting around for now.  I have been using my handy dandy maps app on my phone to help.  I did make it all the way to downtown dallas from allen which is about 23 miles one-way.  Oh boy was that a scary first day to go to the office.  Bryce printed off directions and because of the traffic I had to leave at 6am.  i talked to him the whole way which made me feel much better.   I made it to work in 20 minutes that morning, I'll talk more in another post about traffic.  I got a little turned around trying to get out of the parking garage.  i would say it was a HUGE success for me in conquering a fear of being lost.  I've almost memorized my route to work, the street names not so much.  Lol.  I hope you enjoyed this post on my first day in dallas traffic and my fear of being lost.

Our 3 day journey to Texas

We made it!  Our 3 day journey across the country to our new temporary home; in an apartment.  We began our journey on a Friday night from Charlotte and stopped off in Atlanta at a LaQuinta.  The hotel was on the outer belt of the ATL.  It was a very nice hotel.  Modern in style and convenient to food and the highway.  We left the next morning to begin our second day of travel and as we traveled through the southern states (Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana) it actually went by pretty fast.  We had anticipated driving for 8 hours which turned into 10 because our first and second hotel choice was not the best in Louisiana, so we decided to drive to the Texas border and stopped at a LaQuinta in Murphy, TX.  Nice hotel; however our room smelled like fresh paint.  Our third day, was only 2.5 hours in the car.  By this time Finn was so aggravated with being in the car that he was pouting.  My sweet Hank, co pilot slept all 3 days in the car with me.  Quite the travel companion he was. We ended up arriving a few hours early so we headed to Target and grabbed a few essentials like, towels, sheets and snacks.  We also had to stop and buy a mattress.  We were lucky that the one we liked was available for delivery that afternoon.  We finally went to the apartment and signed the lease.  We took the dogs for a walk around and Bryce unpacked the car.  Our first night we ordered PeiWei for dinner which was at the end of the street.  I would say our first across the country move with two dogs and two cars was a success.
